Wrist pain

Hi there! Is anyone else experiencing wrist pain when doing strength training? I have this issue particularly with deadlifts. If I use a lighter weight, I don't "feel" it, if you know what I mean. But with the heavier weight, my wrists hurt a lot. Could it be that I'm holding my dumbells improperly or is it a joint thing? Opinions?
