Extra breaks between groups/rounds of exercices

Does any of you know the effect of taking extra breaks between exercice groups, e.g. between 2 groups of ABC exercices? If I didn't take those extra few seconds I would have to modify a lot of exercices due to lack of breath... so I just hit pause after a difficult group or round. Do you think it would be better to modify the exercices or continue with what I am doing (I mostly do the high impact version of everything)?
