Beginner Workout Program ?

While I have slowly gained weight since high school (over a 14-year period), I always made time for exercise. However, I gained even more weight this past year while my mother was fighting terminal cancer, as I honestly did not take care of myself and ate due to stress. Now, 6 months after her passing, I am determined to be a healthier me. As a true beginner, I would appreciate any input as to which program I should initiate for this lifestyle change, along with any pointers. Thank you in advance :)
