Running + weight training?

I'm a runner, not a great one, but I do consistently run. I usually run anywhere from 20-30ish miles a week. I know how important it is to add strength training into my normal routine, but I'm at a loss of what to do and how often to do it. Can I just do whatever I want, whenever I want? Or should I stick with some sort of schedule? My goals are to gain some muscle to help my speed and stamina, but also drop some weight. I've used FB in the past, but could never keep up a routine. I've changed my mindset and have ran consistently for 9 months, so I'm ready to be consistent with a strength training regiment. Any help would be appreciated. Really with FB would come out with a program for runners who train for 1/2s and fulls ;)
