I was unwell from September last year until January of this year, could hardly eat or exercise for several weeks and lost a lot of weight. I am now feeling well enough to exercise again but I am still significantly underweight. I'm struggling to know what workouts are best to do at this stage - I am focusing on strength training to (hopefully!) build muscle rather than cardio to burn calories but I'm unsure how much to do to hit that sweet spot. Before I lost the weight I was already naturally at the bottom of the healthy BMI scale so I'm never going to be a big person, but I would definitely like to get back into the healthy range!
I find that a lot of exercise progammes in general are quite focused on maximum calorie burn/weight loss/lifting ever heavier and heavier rather than on maintaining overall fitness. But I would love to see some advice or even a programme for those of us struggling to gain weight while maintaining some level of strength.
To complicate things further, I'm still unable to eat large amounts (or even normal amounts sometimes) so can't just rely on loading up on calories to fuel the exercise.
