New Workout! Yoga-Inspired Total Body Weight Training

Join me on the mat to build functional, total-body strength while expanding your range of movement! This yoga-inspired workout is a great low-impact opportunity to incorporate some resistance training into your routine, by combining yogic movements with traditional compound exercises. Modifiable for most levels, this practice will be one you will want to return to as you watch your strength and mobility progress skyrocket! 

Yoga-Inspired Total Body Weight Training

Recently, I have added resistance/weight training to my workout regiment, and I have loved watching my Yoga practice grow as a direct result of the strength and stability I have been building. While I have always struggled to find a love for weight training – despite recognizing how valuable and necessary it is for my overall health – one way I have been able to find more consistency with weight training has been to explore this area of fitness with a sense of curiosity.

I decided to explore how I could take the conventional weighted exercises and incorporate them into a style of workout that suited my personal preferences, needs, and goals. For example: I don’t always have access to a gym, but I do have a body bolster and a light set of dumbbells → What if I used the bolster as a bench, and I performed a higher rep of exercises with my light set of weights? What if I really slowed my movements with the weights down to build more resistance, rather than adding weight? How can I focus on building functional strength and mobility, by turning these weighted exercises into dynamic or compound movements? 

These questions in my own practice inspired this workout! This routine moves at a moderate pace; has few plane transitions; and best of all can be modified to really challenge your strength game, or totally toned down to build your confidence with compound movements. Weights or no weights it is up to you!
