Elliptical for cardio days

I have an elliptical that I would prefer to use on my cardio days while doing the low impact program since it seems to get me into better walking shape vs the other cardio workouts.

Is this a good option to do some interval training on my elliptical for cardio days and then keep the body weight exercises in? Or should I follow the program exactly?
