Power Yoga Flow for Hip Strength and Release

Throughout this practice we will work internal and external rotations of the hip joint in order to increase mobility. We will begin our practice with a quick warm-up just to get working into our hips, engaging our core and aligning our spine. From there we will play with a fiery flow that will not only challenge your balance, but will help you to tune into your hips to find where/in what positions you might be holding unnecessary tension. While many of us find that our hips hold a lot of tension due to sitting at a desk all day, etc., I have worked with many students who have discovered that their hip tension isn’t due to lack of mobility in the joints, but rather due to lack of flexibility in the surrounding muscles that are compensating for another imbalance in the body (like the back or knees). 

To round down our practice, we will explore some static postures, holding internal and external rotations of the hip, as well as working into releasing the supportive muscles surrounding the hip joints.
