Weak knee after 1000 calorie workout

I did my first 1000 cal workout earlier this week as part of FB Fit4 with my partner. The knee pain was so substantial we couldn’t keep up our forms in the strength section for squats and lunges. Then I’m still feeling it 4 days later, so don’t think I can resume my Fit4 program with the next workout being a lower body strength.

Was it because we didn’t wear shoes on the mat during the HIIT portion of the workout? I know part of the weak knees is also related to the HIIT we’ve been doing with Fit4. We run often and don’t normally have knee problem. The struggle is, most low-impact higher intensity workout has squats and lunges and I can’t even do them at full extent now... it may also be a posture thing but it’s hard to get help from a trainer during covid.
