Building a Booty

So I have an hourglass figure, I'm of average height and weight.

I already have some booty, but I'm wanting to try and sculpt my body to have it as my more dominant feature. I guess I'm wondering... for those of you that have succeeded in developing this region, what worked best for you? Is it really just about squats and lunges etc? How many would I have to do each day/week? What are the early signs that the muscles are getting bigger or even just stronger? At the moment i've noticed they feel tighter and I'm more aware of them when i walk lol. will they get rock solid or do they stay squishy? haha thanks!
