Working out every other day - is it okay?

Hi all,

Does anyone here work out (in average) every other day instead of every day? How (in)effective is it in your experience?

I just got back to working out the past 2 weeks (had worked out for about 2-3 months late last year but fell off the wargon). But life keeps getting in the way and I keep skipping a day. In the past, I'd usually consider I'd failed and ended up stopping altogether. Now I figure out establishing a workout routine --even if not ideal in frequency-- would be a better strategy? On days when I don't workout, I'd normally still walk and/or ride my bike.

Background info: I'm not particularly seeking to lose weight, but I want to adopt a healthier lifestyle (sedentary job, bad at sports since childhood, average weight but too much visceral fat).
