When to take a "proper" break?

Hello guys!

There is something that I have thought about lately, and now it's bothering me until I have an answer for it. :P

You keep on mentioning things such as taking a break (but for more than just one or two rest days)... is this something that I should be doing? Lately, I've been making sure I'm getting in my weekly workouts (approx. 4 a week, one normally stretching/pilates) and having relatively active rest days on the weekend, and also taking breaks when I'm sick. (And I do go on a family holiday twice a year, for one or two weeks, but we normally go swimming/hiking/golfing/kayaking etc every day anyway, so it's not like I veg out completely. ;D)

So just wondering... should I take a break every now and then, and do no workouts for a week (like, every 6 weeks or something)? Or is it fine to just keep doing what I'm doing? I'm only 17 and I don't have any medical condition, so I was wondering if that applied to me...?
