Need advice- i seem to have hurt myself

I seem to have hurt my knee. Earlier this week, I went down into a lunge, and not only did it hurt, but I couldn't get back up! This is completely new for me. I have tried again tonight and it still hurt although not as much. (I had taken a few days off from HIIT and weights). I am modifying any HIIT that involves bending my knees to low impact, and any lunges I am keeping the normally bent knee straight. It doesn't help that because of my kids and my job staying off my knee is not an option. Plus I am absolutely terrified to stop exercising. Any other advice? I would really appreciate it.
