Does working out help anxiety?

I've been dealing with pretty rough anxiety lately (mostly social anxiety), and I was wondering if anyone has found that working out helps. I know that it does in theory, I was just wondering what to expect. If anyone could share their experience, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to decide whether I can manage it on my own or whether I should take medication for it (I'm seeing a doctor next week). Thanks in advance!
