HKS (Healthy, Kind Support) Accountability Group August 29th

Good Saturday morning everyone! Here we are already, the last Saturday in August. I love this time of year when nights are cooler but days are still warm.

I want to apologize for going MIA after Tuesday’s post. I sincerely thank everyone for your kind words of support. I’ve been reading the thread all week, but just couldn’t bring myself to post much.

I had a horrible Monday afternoon at work, meeting with our new boss and learning that we will be forced to go back to the office a minimum of two days a week, with no reason other than “because the company says so”. That kind of argument never sits well with me, especially knowing that this won’t be required of all regional workers, making us feel as if our position is of less value. I was in a foul mood for the rest of the day and evening, and then negative thoughts creeped in.

I felt like a failure. While working from home, I failed to lose more weight, I failed to exercise regularly, I failed to keep up with the housecleaning, I’m failing to properly training Bilbo (he is a true force of nature that one). And then, thinking that working two days at the office will make everything more difficult made me feel even worse.

I am still angry that our company sprung this on us without any prior warning. We wouldn’t have adopted a puppy had I known that he’d have to stay home alone for two entire days per week. I did ask them for some time before they implement this change, because Bilbo needs to be let out every 3-4 hours at his age, and we don’t have anybody nearby who could do that while we’re at work.

It’s worse for one of my colleagues, whose assigned office is more than an hour away, and that’s not accounting for traffic. And another colleague who is alone in taking care of her two young kids, because her husband is on the road a lot, whom she has to drive to school and back each day (no way she can work two 8-hour days at the office in these conditions). And another colleague will have a loooong and complicated commute using public transit to get to her office on days when her husband won’t be able to drive her. Now we just wait and see what they’ll say about all of this, but I doubt they’ll go back on their decision.

I’m slowly making my way out of this funk, trying to find positivity in each day. Our vet confirmed on Thursday that Bilbo is now protected enough after his last shots to go on walks with us. But he is stubborn on the leash, so lots of work to do there, and trying not to feel like we are failing as dog parents. And I haven’t worked out all week again, and that weighs really heavily on me. Here I go again with the negative thoughts and self-doubt (sigh).

Time to look forward to today. What will be happening in your neck of the woods? Any fun plans? Some good food on the menu? Looking forward to reading about your plans. We’ll (try to) go for a walk with Bilbo and enjoy what should be a sunny day. And we have movie night to look forward to, David’s choice.

Wishing everyone a great day 🙂
