I'm a seasoned exerciser, and first started strength training with Fitness Blender far too many years ago! However I have always just picked up the weights, lifted more or less as much as I can for each exercise, and simply called it strength training with no real goal other than keeping fit and strong.
However, at the start of week 4 of the FB30 progamme, I've realised I don't really have any idea of what all the different terms mean. So far we've done endurance strength (in week 1), followed by hypertrophy strength in week 2 (aiming for a gain in muscle size), and submaximal strength in week 3, which I have never come across before and don't fully understand. This week (week 4) we are back to hypertrophy but now with added power. I admit I am struggling to understand the distinction between these types of strength training - surely an increase in "strength" would naturally come with an increase in size and power, and probably endurance too? And what type of strength training is being performed in a standard or "old-fashioned" FB strength training workout, which doesn't specify endurance, hypertrophy or power? E.g. something like this one https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/foundational-lower-body-strength-all-standing-with-dumbbells
Confused about strength training types
