Hello everyone, welcome to the last full week of the beautiful month of August. Please feel welcome to read and to post here, we're always happy to chat.
It's a cool, sunny morning here and I'm up a bit early. This is a consequence of a mistake I made a few weeks ago, so here's a life lesson: while drying sheets and pillowcases out in the sun is a great idea, some days are better than others. Whenever I dried this set, there was either a bad pollen count or maybe air pollution, blah. Congestion and sinus headache are not conducive to the best sleep. I'm going to re-wash the pillowcases and hope for a better tomorrow night. So there you have it, accompanied by today's thought: “Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.” (Eleanor Roosevelt)
Have you learned any important small lessons lately? Here's your chance to share!
This weekend I cooked *all* the things. Between the garden, the farmer's market, and my grocery run, I had a lot of projects and now they're done. After Saturday's batch of salsa, yesterday I made a couple jars of rhubarb compote, two chocolate courgette breads (couldn't resist tweaking the recipe there), roast pork tenderloin, and I revived an old recipe for oven-roasted eggplant. The eggplant recipe called for stewed tomatoes, which I didn't have, so I substituted a bit of tomato sauce left over from making salsa, making up the difference with a few tablespoons of that salsa. It came out quite well, I'll probably add a note to my recipe. If you guessed that today we'll be having leftovers, you guessed right!
As for workouts, I'm taking a recovery day. I was a bit too enthusiastic on the "half roll-downs" in yesterday's Pilates with Amanda (in my defense, Amanda *did* say to roll down as far as you can go), and in consequence, I've decided to give my spine and neck a rest and some stretching before continuing with the challenge tomorrow.
