If you’ve trained with me before, you know I enjoy lifting heavy. But challenging your limits doesn’t always mean picking up the heaviest dumbbell.
Today, we’re using lighter weights and low-impact movement, but there won’t be much downtime. The tri-sets combine dumbbell cardio with pulses and isometric holds, giving us a different kind of challenge than Day 1.
It always surprises me how quickly a lighter weight can start to feel heavy when you keep moving. Add a short rest period or ask the muscles to hold one position, and that lighter weight starts to feel like your heaviest.
That’s one reason I like having different training styles in the same challenge. Day 1 gave us time to slow down and focus on strength. Tasha changed the pace with bodyweight cardio and HIIT yesterday. Today brings weight and cardio together without adding impact.
Most of us already know which type of training we prefer. It’s easy to choose the workouts that play to our strengths and feel less excited about the ones that challenge us differently.
For today, don’t judge the workout by the weights you’re holding. Choose dumbbells you can control, stay active during the pulses and holds, and see what happens as the work starts to add up.
We’re only three days in, Team. Stay open to the different ways Tasha and I will challenge you throughout this program. You don’t need to enjoy every training style equally, but each one can show you something about where you are today.
Which gets your attention more: lifting a heavier weight or holding one position while the seconds count down?
