Hello, blenderz, and Happy Tuesday! Long time no see. How is everyone doing? I'm trying to survive the heat. Temperatures are staying over 35 degrees for the entire week and, as you can imagine, I am decidedly not delighted.
Workout wise, I finished Pumped with Tasha before the heat got too bad and now I'm doing Everyday Strength with Brian as both a deload and also because anything more strenuous would completely drain me in this heat.
Culture wise, I'm still making my way through East of Eden. Yes, it's been over two weeks. The prose is very beautiful but the characters and the story are decidedly...male. There's a lot about men whining and philosophizing while women quietly get stuff done in the background. This could of course be interesting commentary but the author isn't aware that this is happening and seems to think that the male characters' endless discussions are engaging and revelatory. Three men take 20 pages to name two babies while in that time a woman sets herself up as an heiress. Admittedly, she uses manipulation and murder to do it but at least she's doing SOMETHING, you know?
I also watched Obsession and I think even people who are squeamish about horror would appreciated it. At its core it's a story that many women will be familiar with and the main actress' performance is truly one for the books. Not an easy watch but you can tell a lot about a person based on who they end up rooting for/sympathizing with. If you liked Get Out, I think Obsession is a pretty safe bet.
