HKS (Healthy, Kind Support) Accountability Group July 14th - Meet our new puppy
Good Tuesday morning! I am awake at 3am for a good reason this time: to take out our new puppy to go potty. Meet Bilbo, an 8-week old Goldendoodle. We named him Bilbo because like the character, he’s going on an adventure with us.
After our little Loki’s passing, I wasn’t in a rush to get a new dog, but I could tell that David needed one in our life. He has grown up with dogs and he often spoke about a presence missing in our home. He said something that really made me think: grief is love that has nowhere to go. That’s when I agreed to get a new dog.
We got him on Sunday afternoon. He’s been a typical puppy so far, curious about everything, playful, sleeping a lot, and sometimes bitey. He’s the first of his litter and he’s apparently been the brave and adventurous one since the beginning. He follows us everywhere and is already going up and down the stairs in our home, so we have to keep an eye on him.
It was my turn to take him out at night. Only once, and I’m pretty sure he’ll make it through the night very soon. We’re crate training him and night two was better, but he does cry for about 2-4 minutes when he’s alone in there. He eventually falls asleep.
Getting him used to our routine and training him will be our focus during our staycation. Other than that, we’re just relaxing, taking naps as needed, and going on walks with Bilbo in our arms, since he can’t be on the ground yet, as he’s not fully vaccinated. We’ll be watching semi-final 1 from the FIFA World Cup this afternoon. And I’ll be finishing week 1 of the Full Fusion challenge, an optional short pilates workout from Amanda. Supper will be a summer staple: hot dogs and a salad. What is on your schedule for today?
Wishing everyone a great day and to be happy and carefree like a puppy today 🙂
