HKS (Healthy, Kind Support) Accountability Group April 18th

Good Saturday morning.

For the first time in a week, I had a normal night of sleep and did not wake up at 2 or 3am. I always feel better after getting more sleep.

I found the image above after reading about grief and how time heals. The crying is less frequent now and I am able to think of happy memories with our little Loki. David and I decided we’ll make an album with photos and written memories and we’ll put together a display with Loki’s first ever blanket, first plush toy, that he used to play with and sleep with for 14 years, his first and last collar, his yellow ball, and the last blanket that we held him in as he passed, that the vet clinic was kind enough to give us. And we’ll have our favourite picture of him framed and hung above it. Then we’ll add his urn, when it’s ready. I’m not ready yet to put away his food bowls and most of his toys, but that will come in time.

I have been reading the thread this week but could not bring myself to post. I did try to stick to a normal routine, walking most days and eating on plan, though I did not have much appetite. As strange as it sounds, focusing on David’s diabetes diagnosis and him having to eat well has helped me focus.

He had his first meeting with the nurse practitioner in charge of diabetes patients at our clinic and she was happy with how his blood sugar and blood pressure numbers are better than a month ago. She was impressed that we had done a lot of research on diabetes and had already put in place many of the things she wanted to recommend. And she prescribed to him a continuous blood sugar monitor, for better tracking. David was thrilled, because that means he won’t need to prick his finger multiple times a day to get a reading, but unfortunately the monitor installed by the nurse fell off within a few hours at work. We installed another one and it fell off around lunch time the next day. We ordered some extra sticky skin adhesive and large bandages to cover the area. Hopefully that will help the monitor stay on.

Today should be a bright, sunny and warm day, so the plan is to do some yard work and go for a long walk. I’m averaging 8000 steps per day for the month so far, keeping up with the challenge at work. But no workout in a week. That will come.

What are your plans for the day? Wishing you a great one 🙂
