Happy second day of spring! You wouldn’t know it’s spring from looking outside here, where everything is covered in snow again, and we may get more tomorrow. But just to say that it’s actually spring brings its own comfort.
I haven’t posted much this week, dealing with the repercussions of David being diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. The diagnoses were not totally unexpected, but still were a shock to him and left him in tears, which is very rare . That lasted about a couple of days and now he’s ready to tackle this head on.
Of course being the problem-solver that I am, I started doing some research online. His doctor recommended that he sees a nutritionist, so I found a program at our local CLSC (like a community health center), but they only have appointments available in May. So now, I’m trying to find a nutritionist specializing in diabetes. My insurance covers a couple of visits, thankfully. In the meantime, I’m reading all I can about how food will affect his blood sugar levels and trying to come up with a plan.
His doctor prescribed a blood glucose monitor, but strangely did not specify when and at which frequency he should track it, and what is the target range. So more research for me. He will start monitoring it tomorrow, 3 times a day: while fasting when he wakes up, before supper and 2 hours after. He will be able to manage that with his work schedule, until he speaks to his doctor again and asks more questions.
So I’ve had a lot on my mind this week and I could not focus on much. But I definitely need to concentrate on what I’m doing, as I took a bad spill on Thursday, when the front of my slippers caught the last stair going up and I tumbled forward, landing right on my knees. The plate I was holding went flying (no idea how it didn’t break), as did my phone. As I fell forward, my hands tried to break my fall but I wound up flat on my stomach and my face hit the floor between the legs of a kitchen table chair. I was very lucky that my glasses didn’t break. I was sore for a couple of days but feeling better this morning. I usually always keep one hand free when going up or down stairs to catch myself, if need be, but my hands were full. Not doing that again.
No exercise this week except for a couple of walks and stretches, but I’ve kept up with eating on plan, which I count as a win, considering that’s the first thing that goes haywire when I get stressed. Planning to have my weekly treat today, but haven’t decided what yet. I’ll also treat myself to a haircut today. I decided that I would no longer wait a year between appointments at the hairdresser’s.
Looking forward to reading about your plans for the day and weekend, and wishing everyone a great one 🙂
