I was invited to an Apache coming of age ceremony last night. It is almost beyond description. The young woman participant wears a white buckskin decorated with many beads and bells. It is symbolic of the White Painted Woman who blessed the Apache. The girl is blessed and then blesses her people. She lives in a teepee for 8-12 days and has other rituals she follows. There is an enormous fire and Crown dancers come for 4 nights and the family feeds anyone who attends 3 meals a day for 4 days. It was beautiful and cool in the mountains compared with the 90+ (32+) in the desert. Tribal members were very kind and said to come to other feasts Da’ida is what I have been told to call it in Mescalero Apache.
My pre-op went well for the surgery next week. The doctor said he will fix whatever he finds wrong. It is at the Army hospital where I am going to pursue additional care.
Food was frybread ((Ban’Xe) the last two days because it’s rude to refuse food. Everyone’s healthy eating is putting me to shame.
I’m hoping for a good workout day tomorrow.
