I teased a little fun thing yesterday and now I get to spill the beans!
Now, a little bit of background here. The year is 2006, the month is June, and I am a young lad about to start high school (I told Inge you'd all think I was younger after this). I hear a song on the radio called "Slow Down". I fall in love immediately. I research everything I can get my grubby little preteen hands on. I find out the band is called The Academy Is... they're from Chicago! I had just moved there! It's love at first listen. Their first record "Almost Here", which had come out the year prior, is on a near constant repeat.
As the years go on, their three albums and one EP become the soundtrack to my teenage years. Then October of 2011 rolls around. I have dropped out of college for mental health reasons and The Academy Is... posts a Facebook announcement. They have broken up while working on their 4th studio album. It devastates me. I cry! I hate crying! Their singer puts out his own solo album, their bassist tours with Carly-Rae Jepson. The other two members fade from the limelight for a while.
Then it's 2015; I've just graduated from a community college with an Associate's Degree in English. There's whispers in the Chicago scene that TAI is coming back for Riot Fest, a very large, local, 3 day long rock festival. When they finally announce it, I pounce on tickets since it's a one time deal. They announce a tour at their performance. I go to multiple dates thinking it will be the last time I ever get to see them live.
10 years pass, it's 2025. They do another Riot Fest performance. I cannot make it because I broke my foot. They announce another smaller tour for the 20 year anniversary of Almost Here. At this tour, they tease a new announcement, over and over. There's a new song on the setlist; no one knows it
And now we have yesterday. Where they announced a whole new record coming out in March, plus a new tour towards the end of the year. All 4 of the original members were involved in this, no bad blood between them. I cried, a lot, and immediately bought the signed record varient that's a random number out of 500
Anyways! I have rambled on enough about the things I am excited for later this year! I am going to do some chair yoga to calm myself down so I can sleep. What are you all doing to move your bodies today? Is anyone joining Auburn and I in being in potato mode and resting?
What about food? How are we fueling our bodies today? I have some curry and salad for late, once I am more awake.
Anyone got fun music related stories since I rambled on and on about my all time favorite band?
