When does a particular mindset go too far? This is a question I often ask myself (or am asked) in my clinical practice. In this video, I’ll describe a burgeoning phenomenon wherein individuals are taking a “healthy eating” mindset a bit too far.
With orthorexia nervosa (a proposed pattern of disordered eating), individuals become obsessive about the (perceived) quality or purity of their food. This often results in the individual experiencing disruption in their lives — spending too much time thinking about/preparing foods, avoiding social settings where food is present, or malnutrition from lack of adequate nutrient intake.
This video is simply great information for anyone who wishes to know more about a diagnosis that may become more commonly diagnosed, but is particularly helpful in the FB space as orthorexia is more common amongst fitness enthusiasts. So I truly believe it can benefit everyone here. However, if the description above rings true for you or someone you care about, maybe pay closer attention to this one.
