As I’m writing this, I’m just coming back from a walk. While living in a city means this walk was inundated with city noises, I was on a metropark trail and therefore also experienced some natural sounds. I often find, as I did on this particular walk, that being in nature helps me to feel grounded and more relaxed.
One of the things that contributes to this is sound. Most of the time, we just tune out sounds. After all, if we paid attention to all sounds we hear, this would lead to sensory overload. However, taking some time when appropriate to focus mindfully on sounds is a great way to practice mindfulness meditation and achieve some calm/relaxation.
So, in today’s guided mindful sound focus meditation, you will be guided through the principles of mindfulness while focusing on some natural sounds. This is a great one to do if you live in a city like me and don’t always have easy access to natural sounds. However, I also encourage you to use these principles as you go about your daily lives, taking some time to focus on sounds around you (even if it isn’t birds and running water).
