New Article: Benefits of Habits for Wellness Promotion

This is the first part of a two-part series where we will talk about habits, specifically in the realm of wellness. Think about all the things you do in a day. How many of those do you do out of habit? What benefit do these habits have for you?

Habits are actually incredibly important for allowing us to engage in the behaviors we know we want to and should do, but don’t have the mental energy to be intentional about every time we do them. Think about brushing your teeth as an example. If I had to think about brushing my teeth every single time, I would probably dread it and not do it nearly as regularly or as often. However, it is now a habit after doing it 2+ times per day for several decades.

While variety and spontaneity are also important parts of life (remember, balance), habits can be incorporated into wellness behaviors in ways that help us to promote our personal well-being.

What are some things you do out of habit that help you to live your best life?
