2-Week Daily Expert Article Challenge, Day 1-2 - Check-in

Checking in w/ everyone joining in the unofficial 2-week daily expert article challenge. :)

Today, the expert article I chose to read is a very interesting one by Kayla about "Functional Range Conditioning" as a way to improve mobility and motor control, as well as reduce the risk of injury - https://www.fitnessblender.com/articles/what-is-functional-range-conditioning-a-new-way-to-look-at-mobility

Struggling w/ flexibility, earlier this year after stumbling across info that loaded movement in the end ranges can help improve flexibility more than traditional static stretching techniques, a goal has been to deepen the range of motion during strength training in order to help improve flexibility and mobility, and it is making a noticeable difference.

In reading this expert article, it became clear why this approach is working. Kayla wrote that functional range conditioning "retrains the brain and body to stop perceiving movement as harmful and improves range of motion and joint mobility as a byproduct" - which makes a lot of sense. The body allows more mobility and flexibility when it is relaxed and feeling safe in a movement, otherwise it feels the need to tighten in order to protect itself from injury. Kayla goes on to explain about how the body adapts to repetition, and the body's different responses to mobility exercises and static stretching.

And after doing ankle CARs for foot health w/o taking the time to explore it in depth, now the "why" behind it has been explained clearly, and it makes sense.

This article is definitely a gem worth reading, especially in conjunction w/ Kayla's ankle and hip mobility routines (which are great!)! :)

Hope your week is going well and your brains are being fed, and happy Blending everyone! :)
