Overcoming exercise addiction - advice wanted

Hello all.

I’m hoping someone might be able to provide some insight on overcoming exercise addiction - either from personal experience or perhaps professional knowledge. Google so far has given me encouraging stories but not much in the way of practical advice on how to support someone struggling with this. In particular I’d be grateful for thoughts on the issue of whether it would be best to advocate a complete break from exercise - which would no doubt be fairly hellish - a gradual tapering off, or some sort of daily limit (say, only one workout of no more than 45 minutes per day).

I’m aware that CBT is a treatment option, but I’d like to know what I can do as a layman.
