Has Anyone Tried Diet Breaks?

Backstory: After a lot of struggle, I have finally managed to keep my weight stable at 185-190 lbs for several years (big accomplishment considering I used to gain and then lose 30-40 lbs in a year.) I'm exercising 5x a week and eating healthy and sustainably, so with all the positives going on my doctors have given me the green light to start a diet!

Since I don't want to lose everything I've gained, I'm considering loosing about 1 lb a week, but only cutting calories for 3-4 weeks at a time with a 1-2 week diet break (just popping back up to maintenance calories, not overeating) to make sure that I'm not losing too quickly. Diet Breaks have been studied before and shown to improve long-term fat loss but takes longer.

Has anyone tried Diet Breaks before? Do you think it's something you could keep going if you have a lot of weight to lose?
