Importance of Form

How is the Fitness Blender family today? We have some weekend reading (or watching) for you...a great reminder about form.

We talk about proper form a lot. We do so, of course, because proper form is by far the most important aspect to focus on during any type of training.

What it comes down to is the simple fact that if your form isn’t on point, then you start recruiting other muscle groups (that are not supposed to be helping) to help lift or move. Not only does this not work toward the intended result, but it can actually be harmful.

By not practicing proper form and range of motion, you can not only create or intensify weak spots, but you can also change posture and joint tracking, which can cause long-term issues with chronic pain, discomfort, and overall joint stability...and no one wants that.

So, as you are working your way through any exercise, stay present and aware, listen to your body, and always focus on keeping your form as clean as possible. If your form starts to suffer, simply lower your intensity in favor of better function. Your body, and the long-term results you are working toward, will thank you!

P.S. A related question that comes up often is how much weight you should be lifting for certain exercises. Take a look at this article/vlog for our take on this important question, “How Much Weight Should I Be Lifting? How to Choose the Right Amount of Weight.

P.P.S. If you don’t read the article or watch the vlog, here is the gist—don't ever go off of what someone else is lifting. Listen to your own body as it will tell you all you need to know about what the right amount of weight/effort is.
