The Importance of Balance

Balance is so important when it comes to exercise.

In fact, it’s extremely helpful to take a step back and really check your workout routines and programs for balance from time to time.

Not the standing on one foot or the dreaded Turkish get up kind of balance, but rather balancing the body front to back, left to right, and top to bottom. Also, mixing in training styles, such as weightlifting, plyometrics, agility, strength training, toning, cardio, HIIT, yoga, Pilates, flexibility/stretching, etc. is so important when it comes to building overall functional fitness.

Depending on your goals, you may want to lean slightly more towards one training style than another, but never focus on just one.

And if you come across trainers (either online or in person) who try to get you to focus on one training type only, or don’t provide proper balance to their routines, or downplay the importance of proper warm up and cool down work, you might want to look for other resources.

We definitely don’t have all of the answers, but it’s narrow-minded and short-sighted to think that everyone should train the same way or with only one training style.

So, with that in mind, what about trying something new this weekend? Challenge yourself (safely) and you may be in for a surprise.

P.S. For FB Plus members, we have really enjoyed listening to some of your feedback on the Workout Stats tool, where you can see real-time data on workout difficulty, body focus, and training type. Having a better idea of what you have been doing (or maybe neglecting) really helps when it comes to balance.
