Working out before and during your period

Hello everyone!

Let me cut right to the chase: I have been showing high levels of commitment to my workout schedule, however I often find it hard to work out a few days (1-3 depending on the severity of the cramps) before I get my period, as well as on the first, or even the second day I get it. Have you had this problem as well? Do you have any suggestions? From my part, I have found that I can still do some strength training, while on the other hand I need to stay away from abs work outs, not to mention HIIT. Have you found any workout that is particularly helpful cramp-wise? :) I would really appreciate any advice!
