Carbs, Bad or good or okay?

So here I am sitting on my lunch and two of the girls I work with lost so much weight. How they did it?? I think they cut their calories to no more than 1,000 a day and lots of workouts through beach body I think. I know I work out plenty and I feel it is a healthy workout plan. I am not a runner but I walk quite a bit. But one of them mentioned that they are cutting carbs and are avoiding rice. I am so confused about the cutting things out part. I only count carbs for my hubby because he is diabetic but I feel that to cut carbs would be next to impossible. I try to mostly follow the FB way with ess processed food and cutting refined sugars. I do falter on occasion which is a couple times a week. But are carbs so bad? I counted cal for a bit but a whole month of no more than 1200 a day showed no results. I am so confused about all of this. I just keep trying to eat whole healthy. Sorry about the long blerb.
