Aches, Illness, and Ploughing Forward

I'm curious what sorts of personal "guidelines" or rules of thumb you use to determine when it is okay to take a day or two off.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who deal with mild-ish chronic pain or migraines, and other things that you could *technically* push through (as opposed to sore muscles from working out).

I am afraid of letting myself off too easily (just using a headache as an excuse not to work out), but also recognise that sometimes what's best for your body is to give it rest.

What sorts of thought processes do you go through when deciding whether to push through pain or give yourself an off day?
