Week Long Rest??

This is one of the first posts I've made and I feel like this is a stupid question for me to ask, but I've been thinking about this question for a while. I've been reading up on articles about fitness and health for a while and I read about a week long rest in a few articles. They mentioned depending on the person, they should do it every 4-8 weeks to avoid overtraining.

I just wonder if anyone else has done a week long rest or what kind of rest "schedule" you have :)
