How long after eating should I wait to exercise? (fear of nausea)

Or, to phrase it differently, how do I plan eating and exercise? I'm just looking for anecdotal advice. I tend to get panicky if I feel nauseous (I'm emetophobic) so I want to decrease the chance that I'll feel sick from jumping around, conditioning and cardio. Right now I'm not eating much before I exercise, even if my workout is at 12pm. I really think I need to eat more before I workout, especially since I'm trying to gain/maintain weight.
