Is bread really so bad?

I hear talk from friends and coworkers (especially those who follow plans such as Slimming World etc.) about how bread is evil and awful for you and you should have as little as possible... but I enjoy a slice of toast with my eggs for breakfast!

Does bread really impede progress or make us unhealthy to that level?? Or is it silly for me to pay attention?
