Balancing toning, bodyweight, and strength training

Hi all,

I am having trouble wrapping my head around toning, bodyweight and strength. I'm doing a "homemade" program for 30 days focusing on resistance bands as my strength. When I go to alternate that with cardio, I get connfused about toning exercises. They are included with many cardio workouts - they sometimes use bodyweight (tricep dips, pushups) . Should I do those or give it a day of rest? or base it on soreness? What do y'all do?
