HIIT/Cardio

Hi. I know the suggestion is to only do HIIT up to 3 times a week so I’m wondering if it’s ok to do other cardio on the other days? Like if I do some cardio and then upper body work on the other days, is that safe? I love weight training but the cardio seems like the thing that really helps me lose any weight.
