Are abs worth it? + getting back on track

Hey guys,

I've recently been thinking about that toned stomach we all desire... and I'm not sure how possible it is for me. I've never had abs, even at my peak fitness, despite cutting out sugar (as I've heard they're made in the kitchen!) I'm aware there's certain things I could do for abs like cutting out carbs and upping my HIIT. It's just that I'm not sure abs are worth it (because bread). Alas, I feel like a large element of it is genetic predisposition as well. What do you guys think? Are abs worth the effort?

Also what do you guys do for motivation? I've been sick and let that get me off track (haven't exercised in two weeks). How do you get back onto the exercise train?
