Weight Loss-Cardio and Strength



I've been slowly starting to lose weight after a year of learning to exercise regularly and examining my eating habits (really hard!). I love the FB videos and programs. I rely on the programs for guidance, but I have a question: Should I do cardio every day even when I do strength training? I need to lose weight, but I don't want to lose muscle Also, should I focus on lifting heavier for longer amounts of time (over time) even though I need to lose weight?

I'm just a tad bit confused about my workout goals beyond getting stronger and leaner. I don't seem to look very lean, but I still have quite a way to go.
