Joint pain during lower body strenght training

Hey guys,

what is your advice for beginner to fitness (but not in sport generally), who has joint pain above knees in front and behind during exercises, especially during lower body strenght training?

I am trying to train with my bf. He is master of paddling (has his paddles and train 2-3x per week), and I am trying to engage him into fitness blender trainings with me (currently on a FB Burn Round1), and he wants to do it, tries very hard, has already quite good form for most exercizes (squats, lunges), works still on deadlift form, but he get very discourged when he feels pain in joints after the training and 0 soreness or muscle growth.

I am trying to help, we work trough the motions before the training, but I dont know where the pain is coming from. He has only slighty worse endurance than me, much more strenght though, and I think it should get better with time, but I am afraid that he will give up, because of the joint pain. He is not flexible though.

Zero health problems.
