Orange Strawberry Smoothie

Orange Strawberry Smoothie

Healthy Recipes

Overview

This Strawberry Orange Smoothie is perfect for replenishing the body after a hard workout, or great for just enjoying on a hot summer day. This refreshing drink is not only tasty but is also packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals to promote health and vitality.

This recipe is very filling. It is high in fiber and calcium and provides a whopping 260% of your daily Vitamin C. As an added bonus, it's high vitamin C content also increases the amount of calcium your body absorbs from the milk and yogurt. Drink a blend like this one when you want a cool, desert-like treat without blowing your diet.

Ingredients
¾ Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt
1 Orange
1 Banana
5 Large, Frozen Strawberries
1/8 Cup Milk

Whip it up
Pour the splash of milk onto the blades of the blender. Add the yogurt, banana, and orange, and then blend. Once mixed well, add the frozen strawberries and blend again until smooth.

Makes one large serving (roughly 14 oz)

Frozen strawberries make for a smoothie that is thick. Some blenders that are less sturdy may have a hard time handling frozen strawberries. If you like your drink with a thinner consistency, or your blender is not very strong, you can either defrost the berries before making your drink or just add extra milk.

Make your smoothie extra healthy by using plain yogurt instead of flavored. Have you ever looked at the difference in sugar content between plain and vanilla yogurt? A serving of even the healthiest vanilla yogurt usually has around 30- 40 grams of sugar, whereas plain will only have between 10 and 16.

Because of the fruit, the smoothie recipe would make it hard to even notice the change in yogurts, but if you don’t like the lack of sugar, you can always add a spoonful of honey to sweeten it naturally.
