Kiwi Blueberry Smoothie

Healthy Recipes

Overview

Both Kiwis and Blueberries are well known for their many healthy benefits, which is what makes this blend an excellent choice for a pre-workout or weight loss smoothie.

Check out some of health perks this drink offers:

• High in Manganese
• Over 165% daily value of Vitamin C
• High in antioxidants, specifically polyphenols, from the blueberries
• Over 40% daily value of Calcium
• 35% daily value of fiber
• A good source of probiotics; bacteria that keep your digestive tract healthy and functioning properly

These are just a few of the health benefits of this smoothie!

Ingredients:
¾ Cup Plain or Vanilla Yogurt
1 Kiwi
1 Cup Frozen Blueberries
1 Banana
1/8 Cup Milk

Add the milk to the blender, then the yogurt, banana and kiwi (peeling is optional, leave the skin on for more vitamins). Mix well before adding the frozen blueberries, and then blend again. If you like a thicker drink, make sure that all of your fruit is frozen before you blend it. If you like a smoothie with a thinner consistency, simply defrost your fruit ingredients before you start or add a little extra milk.

Makes one large serving.

If at all possible, make your smoothie recipes healthier by using plain yogurt instead of vanilla (or otherwise flavored) yogurt. This keeps the processed sugar content nice and low and it also makes it lower in calories. If you don’t like the taste of plain yogurt, you can always add a little vanilla extract or honey, which is much preferable to the sugars found in overly processed yogurts.

Smoothies can be a fun way to keep a healthy diet colorful and interesting. They can also help to keep your weight down without ever missing a bit of nutrients; using fresh fruit smoothies as a sort of a meal replacement is a good way to keep overall calorie intake low and the diet’s nutritional value rich.
