Overview

Fruits and vegetables are essential for a healthy diet, but they can be even more beneficial to wellbeing when their vitamins, phytochemicals, sterols, enzymes, and minerals are in liquid form. With vegetable juicing, the liquid form of ingestion makes the nutritional properties more readily available and accessible for the body’s absorption.

Fresh fruit and vegetable juice offers the building blocks necessary to rejuvenate and nourish the cells, improving cell metabolism, and in turn rebuilding the body’s natural defense against chronic fatigue and disease. One of the benefits of juicing is that the vegetables do not need to be broken down any further; all of the enzymes and minerals are readily absorbed into the bloodstream, giving the digestive system a much-deserved rest.

Raw fruit and vegetable drinks provide the advantage of unaltered nutrient content; cooked vegetables have a changed chemical composition and are not nearly as nourishing as their unprocessed counterparts (i.e. any commercially prepared highly processed pasteurized juice). Juicing also allows the consumption of minerals, enzymes, and vitamins from a quantity of vegetables that are not easy or pleasant to digest in their whole form. Just imagine trying to eat the amount of whole vegetables that go into one 8-ounce glass of juice!

By removing the unneeded extra bulk of the fruit or vegetable we are able to increase the overall amount and potency of the fruit or vegetable by itself. It also allows us to use the peel and rind of many fruits and vegetables that would normally just be discarded even though they contain the bulk of that foods nutrient content (i.e. a cantaloupe).

Here are a couple of easy to make fruit and veggie juicing recipes that are great for beginners. All you need is a good juicer and some thoroughly cleaned, fresh produce.

Carrot & Apple Juice: Skin the carrots for an even sweeter finished product, or leave the skin for more vitamin mineral content. Cut the apples into quarters and press the fruit through the juicer. This bright orange juice is an excellent recipe for digestion.

Carrot, Celery, and Spinach: Make sure to cut the ends off of the celery and wash the spinach well. Don’t let the green fool you; this is a delicious juicing recipe for hair growth and eye health. Drink this one if you are trying for weight loss; it can also act as a natural diuretic, helping the body shed extra water weight.

Cantaloupe, Apple, Mango, Carrot: Wash the cantaloupe rind well and it can also be juiced. This tasty recipe for skin health also aids in digestion.

Get creative with fruit and vegetable juicing recipes; the possibilities are endless and it’s fun to experiment.

To get the maximum health benefits, be sure to drink the blend as soon as you are done preparing it. The longer it sits the more nutritional value it loses. Juicing once a day using various recipes will inevitably leave you feeling more energetic, focused and overall healthier.
